I never had a case with Tom that was not hard fought but always civil. He was the type of attorney that could taken at his word and was known for his honesty. He was a good man and a good attorney. He was always a pleasure to work with. He will be greatly missed.

Judge Wayne K. Houser, Jr. posted a condolence

To the MonCeret family, I am so sadden by the loss of Tom. I had known him since the beginning of my legal career, and Tom was always a focal point in my life as a fellow attorney, as a companion on numerous hunting trips we made out West, and as a close friend to my family, my mother and father particularly. I bought my dogs from the same breeder as Tom and we both had the same two, Rocky and Bama number 2 for me. Our last joint adventure was when we decided to get ourselves elected to membership as Kentucky Colonels, something that I had wanted to do since my earlier law days in Memphis before coming to Knoxville. I am stunned by the passing of my friend. If I was to start to tell Tom MonCeret stories, it would take days or weeks to tell them all, and the humor of it would tell the story of his life and how energetic Tom was. I have lost my friend and the world is just a little more empty to me without Tom. I represented Tom at times, worked with him on cases down through the years until I became a judge, was his brother in the Masons and as well the Shrine, but most of all I was so lucky in life to just be his friend, it meant so much to me. My condolences to the family. My heart is vrey sad. Judge Wayne K. Houser, Jr.

Knew he was sick, the last time we saw each other in court, and told the Judge we could work together on behalf of our clients. Sadly, illness robbed us of that opportunity. He will be missed.

I am very sorry to hear of Tom's passing. We were in lawschool at UTK together back in the early 70's and had several cases through the years. Tom was always straight forward and honest when dealing with me but could also be a dedicated and effective advocate for his clients when necessary. He had a great sense of humor and never took himself (or our profession) too seriously. I think he had a special gift in his ability to relate well to working people and displayed real empathy for their problems. I always enjoyed sharing stories, memories of law school, or just normal conversations about growing older with Tom. He was one of those folks who you would get a smile on your face when you saw him coming and alway take the time to walk over and just "catch up". He will be missed in our local bar and community greatly. My sympathies to Tom's family and friends. Mike Haynes

Tom was a very capable lawyer, but a truly unique individual who did a much better job than most of us lawyers in maintaining a balance between his work and personal life. When lamenting that he was taken from us too soon, it is consoling to recall how much life he packed into his 66 years. RIP.

I am very saddened to learn of Tom's passing. Tom was a mentor, and a good friend for many years. He always had good advice and a kind word, and a cheerful outlook. He was proud of his service with the Marines, and was always concerned for his clients. I tried my first jury trial in U.S. District Court (E.D. Tennessee) as co-counsel with Tom, and learned much from him during that case, and over the years. He introduced me to the Tennessee Court of Appeals, and I have his name on my Certificate of Admission to the Bar of that Court. Tom will be greatly missed, and the world seems a little sadder and emptier today without him. I was always glad to consider him my good friend. Semper fi, old friend. Roger D. Hyman, Knoxville, Tenn.
