Obituary of James Terrell Green, Sr.

James Terrell Green passed away on January 26, 2019 at his home after a short illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Raleigh Green and Lonnie McLaughlin Green; his wife of 61 years Verna Fillius Green; sisters, Annie Green Marston; Nellie Green Allen; brothers, Edward, Herbert, Henry Green and Robert L Fulks.  

 

He is survived by five children; James T Green, Jr. (Peggy) of Apex, NC; Harry N Green, (Delores) of McMinnville, TN; Mary E Rippy, Martha Billings (Tony) and Joseph Green (Miriam) all of St. Joseph, TN, also 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.  Survived by brothers Robert Green and Oscar Howard “Dimmer” Green of St Joseph, TN along with numerous nieces and nephews.

 

He was an active member of the Mt. Nebo Cumberland Presbyterian Church since 1951. He was a farmer, gardener, carpenter, and retired from Murray Ohio Mfg.  During WWII, James served in the 323d Infantry of the 81st Wildcat Division.

 

Visitation will be February 1 at 3-8pm and a memorial service will be February 2 at 1:00pm at the Greenhill Funeral Home, Greenhill, AL.  Burial will follow at Mt. Nebo Cumberland Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 478 Mt. Nebo Rd., Iron City, TN.

 

In lieu of flowers, please consider contributing to one of his favorite charities, such as, St. Jude’s Children Hospital, the Verna Fillius Green Charities, Inc., or the charity of your choice.  If you wish to contribute to the Verna Fillius Green Charities, Inc., please make checks to Mt. Nebo C.P. Church and mail/give to Reba Corum, 84 S. Old Military Rd., St. Joseph, TN 38481. 

 

The family would like to thank the friends and family who have provided food and encouragement during the past few weeks.  We want to express appreciation to the staff of Compassus Hospice for their support and advice during the last two months.
