Dorothy Mildred Jones, 82, of the Peppertown Community, near Lexington, AL, passed away September 4, 2010, at Crockett Hospital in Lawrenceburg, TN. Dot was born in Lauderdale County on July 5, 1928. She attended Sweetgum Elementary School; graduated from Lexington High School in 1946; attended a business college and worked for the Potts & Young Law Firm for many years. Dot was a member of the State Line Grove Freewill Baptist Church. Dot's parents were charter members of the church in 1911. Visitation was Sunday September 5, 2010 at Greenhill Funeral Home from 5-8p.m. The funeral will be Monday, September 6, at 1:00pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Richardson's Chapel Cemetery. Bro. Joel Wallace will conduct the funeral. Pallbearers will be: Kenneth East, Bob Jones, Dennis Killen, Terry Allen, Jeff McDonald, Dale Barnett and Tony Wilson. Dot was preceded in death by her parents, Louis Taylor Jones and Loucindia Camilla Peppers Jones; brothers, Doyle, Hollis and one infant; sisters, Audrey Killen, Rachel Fleming, and Janelle Jones. She is survived by 5 sisters, Maudie East, Willie Pearl Barnett, Ora Lee Allen, Earlene McDonald, and Jeanette Wilson, all of Lexington. Dot was never married but considered her nieces and nephews as her own children. She was a beautiful, kind, considerate and loving person. She was a role model for the family and well respected by the people of the community. Many people asked her advice about problems. She taught Sunday School for 50 years and influenced the lives of hundreds of children. She seldom missed church and was always helping those in need even if she had to sacrifice things she needed. She kept a positive attitude and continued to visit and call about the sick people when she was the one needing attention. She was a second mom to many children and adults. She will be remembered as the kind of person that we all need to be. A fine Christian Lady that practiced what she preached! Greenhill Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
