Funeral services for John Martin ("Johnny 8-9-10") Etienne, Jr., age 59, of Decatur, AL, will be Thursday May 27, 2010, at 7:00p.m. at Shelton Funeral Home Chapel, Decatur, with Mr. Larry Dillard officiating. The family will receive friends for three hours prior to the service at the funeral home. On Friday, May 28, funeral services will be held at Loretto (TN) Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 11:00am. He will lie in state at the church from 10:00-11:00am. Father Tomy and Deacon Sam Beckman will be officiating. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Mr. Etienne, who died Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at his residence, was born May 29, 1950 in Loretto, TN to John Martin Etienne, Sr. and Virginia Blanche Riddle Etienne. He was an avid golfer and loved by all who knew him. He was a member of the Point Mallard Independent Golfers Association (PMIGA), Knights of Columbus, and Decatur Elks Lodge. He was also a member of Loretto Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Loretto, TN. He is survived by his loving wife, Hilda Marks Etienne of Decatur; two sons, John Martin Etienne, III, and wife, Christina, of Alabaster, and Phillip Andre Etienne and wife Misty, of Loretto, TN; mother, Blanche Etienne of Loretto, TN; five brothers, David Etienne, Peter Etienne, Joseph Etienne, Andy Etienne, and Brian Etienne; three sisters, Mary Marks, Emily Gillespie, and Celeste Brown; seven grandchildren, Kayla, Kara, Austin, Abigail, Jamie, Anderson, and Jasper Etienne; and his very special caregiver and friend, Velma Marks. Pallbearers will be Velma Marks, Ricky Marks, Mike Odom, Buddy Brown, Buford Burgess, Taco Yancey, Ken Lott, and Doyle Bryant. Honorary Pallbearers will be Don Hodges, Dennis Raths, members of the Decatur Elks Lodge, employees of Point Mallard Golf Course, and members of the PMIGA. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial donations be made to Hospice of the Valley, Covenant School (Cullman, AL), or Loretto Sacred Heart School (Loretto, TN). Greenhill Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
