Obituary of Ruth Reeves

Ruth Blanche Reeves was born May 21, 1928, to Agnes and Bill Reeves and passed away at her home in Loretto on September 15, 2009. She was a graduate of Sacred Heart School and Loretto High School. She was retired from the Loretto Telephone Company after 54 years. She overcame near-blindness to lead a happy and productive life of service to her church and community. She was a member of the Ladies Altar Society and Legion of Mary of Sacred Heart Church, the Loretto Lioness Club, Loretto Lift-Up Committee, Tennessee Pioneers, and Tennessee Democratic Women. She was honored as Loretto Lioness Woman of the year in 1982-83, South Lawrence Citizen of the Year in 1997 by South Lawrence Citizens for Progressive Development, and Burgermeister of OctoberFest in 2002-2003. She served as City Alderman from 1991-2002 and as Vice Mayor in 2000. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Mary Ellen Beckman, and her brothers William Reeves and Carl Joseph Reeves. She is survived by her brother, Donald Reeves of Knoxville, and her sister Glenda (John) O'Connor of Memphis, her sisters-in-law Gerry Reeves of Louisiana and Diane Reeves of Idaho, her brother-in-law Lloyd Beckman, and eleven nieces and nephews. She was lovingly cared for by Jeanette Staggs, Shirley Hollman, Janice Frances, Margaret Staggs, Jennifer Staggs, Rita Fowler, and Connie Cozart. Visitation will be at Greenhill Funeral Home from 5:00-7:00pm on Friday, September 18, with the Rosary at 7:00pm. Funeral mass will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, September 19, at Sacred Heart Church in Loretto, with burial following at Sacred Heart Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sacred Heart School. Greenhill Funeral Home is directing.
