Obituary of Ella Louise Turpen

Ella Louise Turpen, 91, of Florence, passed away August 30, 2009, at Glenwood Rehab. and Conv. Center. She was a member of Bonnertown Methodist Church and retired from Flagg-Utica and Relltoc. Survivors include: Son: Alvin Turpen and wife Kathy of Killen; Daughter: Ruth G. Smith and husband William of Lexington; Sister: Carnell Kelley of Rogersville; (5) Grandchildren, (4) Step Grandchildren, (8) Great Grandchildren, (9) Step Great Grandchildren, (4) Great Great Grandchildren, (4) Step Great Great Grandchildren. Preceded in death by her loving husband of 48 years, Don Turpen; son-in-law, Charles Gordon; and parents Robert and Nellie Murks. She loved to cook, especially tea cakes, fried pies and was well known as chicken dumpling lady. She was loving, caring, and devoted to her family, church, as well for her friends or a stranger. Visitation will be Tuesday, Sept. 1, from 11:00-1:00pm at Greenhill Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 1:00pm with Bro. Bobby Gobble and Bro. Tyler Gordon officiating. Burial will be in Pettus Cemetery in Lexington. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. The family would like to express their thanks and gratitude for the love and care given to our Mama, especially Ken and Susan. They always made her smile. Greenhill Funeral Home is directing.
