Obituary of Leon LeMay

Jesse Leon LeMay, 86, passed away January 6, 2017. He was born at Center Hill in Lauderdale County on April 2nd, 1930. Jesse, to his co-workers, Leon to family, and "Molehead" to his childhood friends, Leon graduated from Lexington High School in 1950 and was voted Wittiest in his class. He worked as a Civil Engineer with the Federal Highway Administration beginning in 1954 and retiring in 1986 with The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. His last projects were the Divide Cut at Holcut, Mississippi and The Railroad Bridge on the Tennessee Tombigbee Waterway at Burnsville, Mississippi. Leon was a member of Antioch Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Geraldine "Gerry" Blackburn LeMay and by his parents Johnnie Wilburn LeMay and Esther Hill LeMay. Leon is survived by his daughter Becky and husband Darrell Lester; sisters Ruth Covington and Patricia Clements and her husband Mike; brother Oscar LeMay and his wife Mary Ruth; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Monday, January 9, 2017 from 10:00 A.M.-12:00 P.M. at Greenhill Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will then follow at 12:00 P.M. in the funeral home chapel with Bro. Stan Dean officiating. Burial will be in Antioch Cemetery. Pallbearers will be David Covington, Lang Hughes, Patrick Hughes, Greg Jenkins, Gary Jenkins, and Jeffrey Blackburn. Honorary pallbearers will be James Cloyd Hill, Travis Hill, Billy Ray Hill, Henry Allen, Fred Allen, R.V. Hill, Randall Hill, and Kenneth LeMay. The family would like to send a sincere expression of gratitude to the staff of Green Oaks Inn Specialty Care Assisted Living for their dedication and effort to provide quality care and a loving environment over the past 5 years to Mr. LeMay. Also, they would like to send a heartfelt thanks to Lauderdale Christian Nursing Home for their special care and support. Greenhill Funeral Home in charge of announcements.
