Obituary of Mary Lou Fowler

Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
On June 8, 1918, a beautiful baby girl with dark hair and the brightest of blue eyes was born into the family of William James and Mary Lawson Atwell. On June 29, 2011 she departed this life to join her heavenly family. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 42 years, Buford A. Fowler; sister Alene Atwell Steele; brothers Casey M., Paul J., Robert F. and (infant) Earl M. Atwell. Mama was a loyal wife, and incomparably loving mother, a homemaker, and a steadfast friend and neighbor, always ready to help a friend or stranger in need. And most importantly, she loved God and accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age. She a member of Southside Church of Christ. Mama loved all of God's Creation. Her happiest days were spent gardening or as she would say, "DIGGING IN THE DIRT". Her love of all of God's creatures was a testament to her belief in God's firm control of our world. She gladly shared the fruits of her labor with those around her. Our Mother was a special lady who taught us to live honestly and honorably, to treat others as we would like to be treated, and, in her words, "to love and honor the Good Lord, who made us". Left to mourn her passing are daughter, JoAnn Fowler, St. Joseph, Tn., Sons, Jimmy D. Fowler(Pam), Loretto, Tn., William E. Fowler(Bonnie), Nashville, Tn., Grandsons, Billy Fowler(Beth), Nashville, Tn. and Gene Fowler(Yuliya), Brentwood, Tn., Great-grandchildren Cameron, Dmitro, Dianna, and David Fowler. Also surviving, a precious Step-daughter Dorothy Sue Gist of Greenhill, AL and Step-grandchildren- Johnny Ruth Dixon, Randy Carol Gist, Debbie (Charles) Nabers, Sandra (Roger) Myrick and Terry Gist, and their children and grandchildren. Also surviving as part of our extended family, the much loved Evers children, Corky Evers, John Evers, Teri Shabarekh, Rebecca Evers, Alice Sanborn, Gerri Flanigan and Melanie Allen. And she also leaves behind many much loved nieces, nephews and a host of friends and neighbors. The family would like to thank Dr. Macon Landers, for his many years of loving care and friendship and the sharing of his love of the land with our Mother. Dr. Danny McFall, for his excellent medical care and his tender loving conversations with her. He will always be held dear by the family. Grateful thanks to Dr. Ricky Irons, for his care and compassion during the last week of our Mother's life. Special thanks to the NW Alabama Cancer Center Drs. Patel, Daughtery, Hagler and their wonderful staff. Thank you to Deconess Home Health, particularly Kristi Curtis, Kim Risner, Tatum Taylor and Eric Tores. You are truly special friends. Thanks to John Lawson and the Staff of Milner Rushing Drugs. And lastly, Thank You to Mama's Caregiver, Rita Fowler. Our Mother loved you from the first meeting and you became one of the family. Visitation will be Saturday, July 2, 2011, from 12:00 - 2:00 P.M. at Greenhill Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow this at 2:00 P.M. in the funeral home chapel with Bro.
