John David Burgess, 78, of Killen, AL, passed away October 22, 2015 after a brief illness. Mr. Burgess was a retired supervisor at Tee Jays Manufacturing, an Army Veteran , and a member of Springfield Baptist Church. Mr. Burgess is survived by wife Doris Newton Burgess; sons Greg Burgess (Stephanie), Tim McCafferty (Libby), and Tom McCafferty (Elrhonda); sisters Dona Cole, Betty Pettus, Ruth Balentine, Francis Campbell, and Marie Brown; (7) grandchildren; and (6) great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by parents Tommie Lester and Julia Robertson Burgess; daughter Tanya Burgess; and brother T.R. Burgess. Visitation for Mr. Burgess will be Saturday, October 24, 2015 from 11:00 A.M.-2:00 P.M. at Greenhill Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 P.M. with Marty Mosley and Audie Bogus officiating. Burial will be in Pettus Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Stacy Brown, Stanley Brown, Billy Campbell, Steve Campbell, Glenn Cole, and Troy Burgess. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Cole, James Gray, Robbie Gray, David Young, Corbin Burgess, William Kizer, Doug Newton, and Dewayne Newton. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society will be greatly appreciated. Greenhill Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
