Obituary of Don Herston

James Donald "Don" Herston, 77, of Green Hill, AL, passed away March 9, 2015. Mr. Herston was a retired member of I.B.E.W. Local 558, a longtime member of Green Hill United Methodist Church, Alabama Cattlemen's Association, and Green Hill Masonic Lodge. He was a proud I.B.E.W. member for 53 years where he served as President for many years and also Vice President and Assistant Business Agent. One of his greatest joys was that one son and two grandsons followed in his footsteps as I.B.E.W. members. Don was also a 3rd generation Mason and was a Master Mason at Greenhill Masonic Lodge 402. Don was wonderful husband and a devoted father, grandfather, and father-in-law. First and foremost he was a strong Christian and taught these principles to his family. He loved his church, Green Hill United Methodist Church, and devoted most of his life in service to this church. He was a proud Alumni of Rogers High School and a huge Pirate fan. He worked diligently as a Booster for many years and was a founding member of the Rogers Stadium Club. Mr. Herston is survived by wife Ima Jean Chandler Herston; daughter Donna Herston Borden (Ronnie); sons Darrin Herston (Shannon) and David Herston (Donna); grandchildren Heath Borden (Amy), Hayley Davenport (Kory), A.J. Herston (Erin), Robert Herston (Ariele), Graham Herston, Griffin Herston, and Anne Walton Herston; great-grandchildren Raylan Herston, Samuel James Davenport, and Madison Phifer; sisters Dollie Richardson and Jo Briggs; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Velma and Leon Herston; sister Donna; loving in-laws Floyd and Vera Chandler; and brothers-in-law Larry Briggs and B.A. "Bill" Richardson. Visitation will be Thursday, March 12, 2015 from 2-3:30 P.M. at Green Hill Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 3:30 P.M. with Bro. Mark Woodruff and Brian Smith officiating. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be the grandsons: Heath Borden, A.J. Herston, Robert Herston, Graham Herston, Griffin Herston, and Kory Davenport.
