William James Gist, 82, of Iron City, TN, passed away at home February 27, 2015. He was the son of the late Emmit Lee Gist and Snowie Goolsby of Florence, AL. He is survived by his dear wife of 59 years Mary Elisbeth Gist; his two sons William Joseph Gist of Loretto, TN and James Allen Gist of St. Joseph, TN; his two daughters Betty Jean Purser of Leoma and Christine Penwell of Noblesville, IN; (9) grandchildren; (27) great-grandchildren; (6) great-greatgrandchildren; and brothers Wayne and Clyde Goolsby. He was preceded in death by his parents Emmit Lee Gist and Snowie Goolsby; grandson Timothy Cundiff; sisters Willie Dee Goolsby, Lucille McKinney, and Diane Powers; and step-father Beaumont Goolsby. Mr. Gist was retired from Noblesville Casting Company in Noblesville, IN and worked at Wilson's Metal Casket Company for 15 years in St. Joseph, TN. Visitation for Mr. Gist will be Sunday, March 1, 2015 from 5-8 P.M. at Greenhill Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Monday at 1:00 P.M. with Bro. Tim Hanback and Bro. Stacey Holt officiating. The resting place for Mr. Gist will be Wolf Creek Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Brice Purser, Brody Purser, Rex Penwell, Danny Malott, Billy Cundiff, and Michael Andrews. The family would like to thank Greenhill Funeral Home, Bro. Tim and Bro. Stacey, and Iron City Free Will Baptist Church for all your support, prayer, food, and love that you have shown.
