Obituary of Glenn Gooch

Please share a memory of Glenn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Alvis Glenn Gooch, beloved husband, dad, and pawpaw, passed from this life on January 19, 2015 at Lauderdale Christian Nursing Home after an extended illness. He was 72 years of age. He had been a resident of St. Joseph, TN for the past eight years. It was there on Cowpen Road that his dreams of owning a farm, building a house, and working with his John Deere tractor came to fruition. Previously, he lived in Greenhill. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 21, from 4-7:00 P.M. at Greenhill Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Thursday, January 22, at 1:00 P.M. with Bro. Charles Kretzer, Bro. Howell Bigham, and Bro. Tim Grigsby officiating. Interment will follow at Shiloh Cemetery. Glenn, the youngest son of Raymond and Oma Jenkins Gooch, was born in a historic log house on Cowpen Creek on November 28, 1942. Shortly thereafter, the Gooch family moved into their new home west of Highway 43 in Greenhill. It was in this house, built by his father, that Glenn grew from a boy into a man. Many friendships and childhood memories were made during those bygone years when the neighborhood kids gathered for a game of baseball on the Gooch's corner lot. After graduating from Rogers High School in 1961, he attended Allen Thornton Trade School and received a degree in drafting. He worked for the Florence Electric Department as a draftsman. Later, Glenn worked for Ford Motor Company, Wise (formerly Reynolds), and was retired from both. As a young man, Glenn dedicated his life to God and became a New Testament Christian. He was a faithful member of Shiloh Church of Christ. Glenn was a hard worker and continued working well after his health declined. He was good provider for his family and anonymously shared with others in need. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Justine Myrick Gooch; sons Eddie (Angie) Gooch of Athens, AL, Jim (Chasity) Gooch of St. Joseph, TN, and Bob (Kelly) Gooch of Greenhill; grandchildren Joshua, Rachel, Kyle, Jessica, Darby, Devon, Garrett, Brodie, Alexis, and Anthony; sister-in-laws Earline and Allene Gooch; nieces, nephews, and special cousin Sally Richardson. Glenn was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Ernest and Rayford. Pallbearers will be children and grandchildren: Eddie, Jim, Bob, Jessica, Rachel, Kyle, Joshua, Darby, Devon, Garrett, Brodie, Alexis, and Anthony. Honorary pallbearers will be Jesse Wisdom, Joe Frank Fowler, David LeMay, Tommy Grossheim, Danny Chandler, Dennis Allen, Allen Keeton, Leon Hines, Jackie Chandler, Henry Allen, Ted Short, Danny Jenkins, David Quillen, Kevin Chandler, Johnny Wallace, and Dylan Grigsby. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to North Alabama Christian Children's Home, Hospice of The Shoals, or Shiloh Cemetery Fund. The family would like to send a special thanks to Dr. Teresa Lango, Dr. Edsel Holden, all the staff of Lauderdale Christian Nursing Home, Glenwood Nursing Home, and Greenhill Funeral Home. Greenhill Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
