Obituary of Neil Sewell

Neil Richard Sewell, 89, of Lexington, AL, passed away June 27, 2013 after a brief illness. Mr. Sewell was a World War II Navy Veteran and a retired mill operator at Reynolds Metals. Mr. Sewell was the Junior Vice Commander of American Legion Post 11, of which he was a 64 year member and a member of the VFW Rogersville Post. He was also a deacon at First Baptist Church of Anderson and a member of the International Society of Poets. Mr. Sewell loved gardening and carried the tradition of the family garden plot into its one hundredth year. After his retirement, he became a writer and poet. He was well known for greeting everyone with a smile and a piece of candy.
Survivors include:
Sons: John Sewell and wife Marilyn and Larry Sewell and wife Jenny
Daughter: Tina Parker and husband JD
Grandchildren: John and James Parker and Samuel Sewell
Mr. Sewell was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Doris White Sewell; and his parents Owen and Mamie Blue Sewell.
Visitation will be Saturday, June 29, 2013, from 12-2:00 P.M. at First Baptist Church of Anderson. The funeral service will follow at the church at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. JD Harrison officiating. Burial will be in Grassy Memorial Cemetery. The deacons of First Baptist Church of Anderson will serve as pallbearers.
