Obituary of Sr. Howard

Edward Harrison Howard, Sr., of Florence, passed away April 27, 2013 at Helen Keller Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was 81 years old, a native of Lauderdale County, and a 1950 graduate of Lexington High School. After serving four years in the U. S. Air Force, he worked for Reynolds Alloys as an electrician until his retirement on disability in 1973. He was a member of Killen United Methodist Church, IBEW Local 558, the American Legion, and Lexington Masonic Lodge #613. Mr. Howard was preceded in death by his parents, Almon and Hermie Pettus Howard; sister-in-law, Christine Howard; and brother-in-law, Henry Corum. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Peggy Goodwin Howard, son, Edward H. (Hal) Howard, Jr. and wife Sherry, three grandchildren, Kayla Glover (Austin), Corey Howard and Elyssa Howard, one great grandchild, Natalya Glover, two brothers, A. D. Howard of Lexington, Billy Howard (Betty) of Florence, and one sister, Sherry Corum of Lexington, and nieces and nephews, Bobby Howard (Kim), Jenny Howard, Deborah Mercier (Mike), Bill Howard (Jennifer), Lisa Massey (Ryan), Hank Corum (Brandi), and several great nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 12:00-2:00pm, Monday, April 29, at Greenhill Funeral Home with services following. Officiating will be Rev. Bryan McIntyre. Burial will follow in Pettus Cemetery, Lexington. Pallbearers will be nephews Bobby Howard, Bill Howard, and Hank Corum, and friends, Steven Robertson, Dwight Pilkilton, and Dennis Patterson. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Mercier, Corey Howard, Austin Glover, Bill White, Billy Trousdale, and Bryn Massey. The family extends a special thanks to the wonderful staff at El Reposo Nursing Facility for their ongoing love and support, and the 4th Floor staff at Helen Keller Hospital for all of their compassion and care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mission or Building Fund of Killen United Methodist Church, or to Alabama Sheriffs Youth Ranches, P. O. Box 24009, Montgomery, AL 36124.
