Obituary of Oma Gooch

Oma Gooch, 96, of Killen, AL, passed away January 21, 2013. Mrs. Gooch was born to W.P. (Pink) and Debbie Wright Canerday on January 27, 1916. She was the widow of Robert B. Gooch. Mrs. Gooch was born in the Greenhill community and spent her life there and in the surrounding Atlas and Killen area. Mrs. Gooch was a member of the Church of Christ and attended the Killen and Atlas congregation. She was a garment seamstress for more than 30 years at J.I. Flagg Utica, Genesco, and was retired from G.T. Lingerie. Mrs. Gooch enjoyed her African violets and keeping her grass cut. She enjoyed most of all her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and acquired the name "Mama Gooch" from them and all their friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 25 years, Robert B. Gooch; grandson Ken Parker; son-in-law George Ellis; her parents; her brothers Odus, Edgar, Clyde, Cleburn, and Price (Shaker) Canderday; and her sisters Evie Williams and Lessie Gooch. She leaves to cherish her memory and mourn her loss: daughter Bobbye G. Ellis; sons Wayne and James (Poochie) and wife Helen; sister-in-law Eunice Gooch; grandchildren Gregory and Daniel (DeAnna) Parker, Andy, Anita, Richard (Phyllis), Travis (Jovonna) and Rhonda (Kenneth) Gooch; step-grandchildren George Ellis III (Marcia) and Hayes (Han) Ellis; (17) Great-grandchildren; and several Great-great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Thursday, January 24, 2013 from 10-1:00 P.M. at Greenhill Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 P.M. in the chapel with Bro. Charles Kretzer officiating. Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery. Pallbearers will be family and friends. The family would like to especially thank the 5th floor Staff at Mitchell-Hollingsworth Nursing Home.
