Obituary of John David Thigpen

John David Thigpen, 82, of Lexington, Alabama passed away on July 7th, 2024, in Florence, Alabama after a brief illness. Visitation will be held at Greenhill Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, from 11:00am - 1:00pm. Funeral service will follow at 1:00pm, in the funeral home chapel with Terry Wright officiating. Burial will follow at Nebo Cemetery, Lexington, AL. Greenhill Funeral Home will be handling the funeral arrangements. David was born in Lexington to James Odus and Mary Ritter Thigpen on August 30th, 1941. He graduated from Lexington School in 1959 and served in the Army Reserves from 1959 to 1964. He was retired from Reynolds Alloys/Wise Aluminum and farming before becoming a dealer in antiques in his retirement years. He enjoyed watching old westerns, going to sales and auctions, and talking with his customers at Elgin Glass Shed Antiques. David is survived by his wife of 62 years, Carroll Shelton Thigpen; sister Treva Green of Killen; sons John Gregory (Teresa) Thigpen of Lexington; Patrick Thigpen of Killen, and Jeremy (Heather) Thigpen of Florence; daughter Melissa (Bob) Isbell of Franklin, TN; grandsons Nathan (Claudia) Thigpen and Zackary Thigpen, of Lexington, Kelby (Jordan) Isbell of Basehor, KS; Shelton Seth Isbell of Franklin, TN; granddaughter Wendy (Eric) Rickard of Killen; Great granddaughters Carolynn and Lillian Rickard, Morgan Isbell, and Caroline Thigpen; great grandson Carter Thigpen; several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother James Lloyd Thigpen; sister-in-law Joye Thigpen, and brother-in-law Herbert A. Green.
