Obituary of Charles Edward Gibbs

Charles Edward Gibbs died Thursday, March 15, 2012 at his home in Montgomery, Alabama, following an extended illness. He was a long time resident of Killen, where he was a member of the Lone Cedar Church of Christ. In 2005, he and his wife moved to Montgomery to be with their daughter Kimberly Cross and her husband Trey and he placed membership with the North Lowndes Church of Christ in Montgomery.
He was born December 21, 1921 to Mary Elizabeth "Mollie" Belew Gibbs and John Henry Gibbs.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Josephine Inman Gibbs; one son, Roy Edward Gibbs; twelve siblings, Gilbert Franklin Gibbs, Minnie Gretchen Gertrude Gibbs, Annie Gladys Witt, John Henry Gibbs, Jr., Harry Parks Gibbs, William Harold Gibbs, Robert Thomas Gibbs, Mary Elizabeth Webb, Turner Belew "TB" Gibbs, Flornoy River "Flick" Gibbs, Samuel Gibbs, and Joseph Rainy Gibbs.
He is survived by two daughters, Kimberly Dawn Gibbs Cross (Trey) of Montgomery, Martha Gail Geans (Roy) of Tuscumbia; one son William Charles (Bill) Gibbs (Melissa) of Cherokee; three grandchildren, Charles Cameron Gibbs, Jason Lance Gibbs (Shanna) of Lawrence County, Tennessee and Ronald Lee Peck, Jr. of Killen; five great grandchildren , Jada Gibbs, Garrett Gibbs and Riley Gibbs of Lawrence County and Hunter Bankston Cross and Emily Rebecca Cross of Prattville; and more nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great, great nieces and nephews than a body can count spread over Tennessee, Alabama, and Texas.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 16 at Greenhill Funeral Home, Greenhill, Alabama. The family time will be from 6:00 until 7:00 PM followed by open visitation from 7:00 until 9:00 PM. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 17 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel at Greenhill Funeral Home. The Services will be conducted by his nephew, Johnny Gibbs of Lawrenceburg, Tenn. and his Montgomery Minister George Vinson. Interment will be in Gibbs Family Plot at the Atlas Church of Christ Cemetery in Greenhill.
Pallbearers will be Wesley Beasley, Ronal Spivey, Randy Robbins, Cameron Gibbs, Jason Gibbs, Butch Henson, and Mike Sandrell. Honorary pallbearers will be Arthur Witt, Milton Yancey, Lambert Behel and Glenn Deese.
