Obituary of Ruby Holden Thigpen

RUBY M. HOLDEN THIGPEN (aka Momma Ruby) Ruby Mae was born July 13, 1928 and passed from this earth November 26, 2020 at the age of 92 years, 4 months and 13 days. Ms. Ruby was preceded in death by her ---- Parents – Oliver and Willie Simpson Husband – Houston Holden Husband – William Thigpen Sons – Eugene and Jimmy O. Holden Brothers – J.C. and Mitchell Simpson Twin Sister – Reba Beavers She is survived by three children: Lonnie Holden and wife Gail, Sue Spurlock and husband Howard Ann Gray and husband Harold Daughter-In-Law, Nelda Holden She leaves 12 grandchildren, 28 great grand children and 4 great great grand children and many nieces and nephews. Momma Ruby LOVED her “young’uns” all of them from the oldest to the youngest although we know Lonnie was the pet. Momma Ruby loved everybody. She was a hard worker and worked hard to raise her family. She not only worked as a Mother she worked many years outside the home. She spent several years at ECM hospital as a Nurses Aide and loved taking care of people. She then worked many years at Lexington Fab as a seamstress until she retired. She was a Christian - member of the Church of Christ, a good woman. She didn’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings and was always kind to everyone leaving them with a sweet smile and a thank you. We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to the staff of El Reposo Nursing Facility for the tremendous care and love they gave to Mother over the last few years. She truly appreciated and loved each and everyone of you. We learned pretty fast when her activities there were more important than we were and on what days. We love you Mom and you are taking a BIG piece of our hearts with you but we have the comfort knowing you are now whole again. No more sickness, pain or tears just a happy face. We know you are now watching over us. A Public Graveside service for Ms. Ruby will be held Saturday, November 28, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at the Centerhill Church of Christ Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Bro. Tim Grigsby will be officiating. Greenhill Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
