Obituary of Oma Bendall

Oma Ann Wright Bendall passed away peacefully at 1:23 PM on May 13, 2019. At the time of her death, she was surrounded by family at Lauderdale County Christian Nursing Home in Killen, Alabama.

 

Mrs. Bendall was born in Killen on February 4, 1923, the daughter of J. Lee Wright and Eliza Jane Coats Wright. She was married to Walter Franklin Bendall from October 31, 1942, until his death in 1983. The couple had two children, Donna Jane Bendall Johnson and Greg Bendall. She was an active member of North Carolina Church of Christ throughout her life.

 

Mrs. Bendall graduated from Lexington High School in 1941. After working as a cosmetologist and owning her own business, she received an associate degree from UNA and taught cosmetology at Allen Thornton Vocational School 1967-1987. Mrs. Bendall was a beloved teacher and colleague who was active in DECA.

 

Mrs. Bendall is survived by her sister, Adgie McMurtrey (age 99); children: Jane Johnson (Leslie) of Killen, Greg Bendall (Beverly) of Birmingham; five grandchildren: Leslie Johnson, Rustin Johnson (Erin Gockel), Warren Johnson (Monica), Brooke Bendall Burgess (Matthew) and Brandi Bendall Bullard (Todd); five great-grandchildren: Walter and Josianna Johnson and Sawyer, Ben Fischer and Sloane Burgess; and many loving nieces, nephews, and friends. She was predeceased by her parents and siblings Lillie Swinea, Allen Wright, Hugh Wright, Floyd Wright, Helen Martin, and Merrill Wright.

 

The family is sincerely grateful to Donna Ivey, Green Oaks Inn and Lauderdale Christian Nursing Home for the loving care given to their beloved mother in her final months.

 

Family visitation will be 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM on Friday, May 17 at North Carolina Church of Christ, followed by the funeral at 1:00 PM. All friends and family are welcome. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to North Carolina Church Cemetery Fund or the charity of your choice.

Pallbearers will be Leslie Johnson II, Rustin Johnson, Warren Johnson, Walter Johnson, Matthew Burgess, and Todd Burgess.
