Today, we say goodbye to Mary Elizabeth Johnston Davis. She was the most precious, loving, generous and tender hearted woman we have ever known. Her love for God showed in her kindness to others. She was a devout Christian and a member of Peppertown Freewill Baptist Church. Most people knew her as Sis or Sissy. She was born on August 2, 1933 and lived to be 90 years old. After an extended illness, God took her home gently. She will forever live in our hearts. She was a hard worker and always busy cooking, cleaning, babysitting, cutting the grass, washing cars or anything else that she felt needed to be done. She was always willing to share what God gave her. She opened her home up numerous times for her friends and family to stay indefinitely. She cooked the best fried chicken of anybody around. And we can’t forget Sissy’s homemade lemonade. Everybody fought over the last glass. She had a meek and quiet spirit but when a good card game of Rook started, you better watch out. She took it to another level. She took her game seriously. She played to win… and most of the time she did. She was always there for you when you had a need. Day or night, she would drop what she was doing to come help. Whether it was making trips to Nashville, Memphis or Birmingham to carry family or friends to doctor visits, sitting with someone in the hospital or keeping children at her house when parents weren’t able. She was always there with her smiling face, her loving heart, her tears of love and her hugs that always helped make things better. She was a true servant to those in need. She seemed to know who needed love the most, and was always there for them. Giving of her time, wisdom and knowledge. She was a second mom to everyone. It didn’t matter who you were. If you were part of the family, a friend, a neighbors child or even one of the young people working at a fast food restaurant. People were just drawn to her. She loved everybody like a true mother does. She was an amazing woman and will truly be missed. She will never be forgotten. The family would like to say a special thanks to Shea Eubanks and Terra Franks of Affinity Hospice. We prayed that God would lead us to the right people. He answered that prayer loud and clear when He sent you two. You both have been such a blessing for us all. Thank you for the tender loving care you gave our Momma Sissy. I know she would want you both to know how much she loved you. Thank you for the encouragement you gave us. Thank you for answering all of our calls, day or night. Thank you for your faith in God. We will pray for Gods blessings to be upon you as you continue to help others.
