Irma Elizabeth Hamner Estes, age 96, formerly of Killen, Alabama, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2025, in Labadie, Missouri. She was born on October 20, 1929, in Lauderdale County, Alabama, where she later met and married the love of her life, George P. Estes, on December 24, 1953.
Following their marriage, Irma and George moved to St. Louis, Missouri, where they established their home and raised their family. Irma devoted many years as a loving homemaker before beginning her career as a switchboard operator with St. Louis County Hospital, where she worked faithfully until her retirement in 1989.
Irma resided in Clayton, Missouri, until the passing of her beloved husband in 2001, after which she returned to Killen, Alabama, to be near her siblings and extended family. In 2017, she moved back to the St. Louis area to be closer to her cherished great-grandchildren.
Irma was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her faith was central to her life, and she was a faithful member of the Church of Christ. She will be remembered for her love of family, quilting, gardening, and her unwavering devotion to the Lord.
Irma is survived by her daughter, Georgina D. Overmann; her son, Kimball P. Estes; her sister, Martha H. Burrows; and her grandchildren, Gabrielle (Andrew) Kalkbrenner, Derek Schmiedeskamp, and Monica Schmiedeskamp. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Lucas and Elizabeth Kalkbrenner, Lily Anna Schmiedeskamp, and Maverick Calvin, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Robert Hamner and Mary Susan Stutts Hamner; her husband, George P. Estes; her daughter, Charlene L. Estes; her brothers, Howard, Herschel, Horace, Hollie, Hunter, Troy, George, and John Hamner; and her sisters, Elvie Peck, Agnes Clemmons, and Edith Nichols.
