Obituary of Gloria Jean Brooks Higgins

Gloria Jean Brooks Higgins, 85, of Killen, Alabama, passed away of natural causes at her residence on October 25, 2025. She was born and raised in Marshall County, Alabama. She was an active band member as 1st Trumpet and graduated from Boaz High School in 1958. Gloria worked as a Practical Nurse at the local hospital from ages 15-20. She attended Snead State Junior College on a Voice Scholarship and graduated with an Associate in Arts Degree in 1960. She began nursing school at Holy Name Of Jesus Hospital in Gadsen, Alabama. She later left nursing school to begin her 64-year marriage to the love of her life. Gloria then became a homemaker, mother of 4, part time piano teacher, and a proud 20-year military wife. The family landed in Florence, Alabama where she continued her love of music as an active member of St. Jospeh Catholic Church as well as at other local area churches.

Husband: William S. Higgins, Sr.
Son: Richard Allen Higgins (Catherine)
Daughters: Laurie Ann Higgins (Geena Phillips) & Stacy Marie Westbrook (Cameron)
Grandchildren: Aly Bray (Adam Bob), Wesley Donaldson, Hunter Higgins (Summer), Jacob Donaldson, and Calum Higgins
Great Grandchildren: Ashlyn Kerr, Maisee Bray, and Lainey Donaldson
Preceded in death:
Parents: Herman Floyd Brooks & Annie Lou Mozley Brooks
Son: William S. Higgins, Jr. (Diedra)
Visitation will be Tuesday, October 28, 2025, from 12:00 P.M. until 1:00 P.M. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. The funeral mass will follow at 1:00 P.M. in the church. Burial will be in Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens.
