Obituary of Dennis Wayland Allen

Dennis Wayland Allen, 79, passed away on February 21, 2025 at North Alabama Medical Center surrounded by family after losing his battle to pneumonia. Dennis was born on April 18, 1945 in Greenhill, Alabama. Dennis married Sherry (Green) Allen on June 2, 1967 and they were married for 57 years. Dennis is remembered as a loving husband and dad, Pawpaw to Faith and Matthew, devoted friend, devout Christian, Alabama football fan, and joy to the Greenhill community. Dennis was a loyal, dedicated, and committed employee and worked for 56 years at local Ford/Lincoln/Mercury dealerships as a parts salesman and manager. Dennis was a faithful member of Shiloh Church of Christ and served as a Deacon for 50 years. Dennis is remembered as an enthusiastic worker. He was passionate about the outdoors – working in his garden, mowing grass, and riding his Ford tractor. He enjoyed taking trips with his family and over the past few years visited New York City, Bar Harbor Maine and Salt Lake City Utah. His favorite vacation destination was The Great Smoky Mountains, TN. Dennis is survived by: Wife- Sherry Allen Daughters: Heather Phillips (Stephen), Heidi Hendrix (Dr. Quentin) Brothers: Travis Allen (Jo Anna), Bobby Allen (Maureen) Sisters-in-law: Faye Allen, Sharon Allen, Joyce Green, Glenda Phillips (Ray) Grandchildren: Faith Keeton (Daniel) and Matthew Phillips Great grandchild: Ryker Keeton Favorite grand-dog: Roscoe Preceded in death: Parents: A.D. Allen and Ruby Richardson Allen In-laws: Oscar Howard Green and Eula Pearl Green Brothers: Morris Allen and Terry Dale Allen Visitation will be on Monday, February 24th, 2025, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Greenhill Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm at the Funeral Home Chapel with Hoby Grace and Brian Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Shiloh Church of Christ cemetery.
