Obituary of Linda Gail Lumpkins

Please share a memory of Linda to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Linda Gail Beard Lumpkins, went on to her eternal reward on January 22, 2025 at the age of 78. Linda, a dedicated and loving wife, mother, teacher, and servant of Christ, lived a life of unwavering faith and compassion, touching the lives of all who knew her. Linda was born on September 10, 1946 in Samburg, TN, the daughter of Forrest and Lonna Beard. She devoted her life to teaching and spreading love and kindness. Her career as a school teacher spanned from 1968 to 2014, where she taught kindergarten through middle school students in public school systems as well as at Mars Hill Bible School. She earned her BA in Elementary Education from Freed Hardeman University and Abilene Christian University, and went on to receive her MA in Special Education and Reading from the University of North Alabama. Linda was honored as Teacher of the Year for West Limestone County, a testament to the deep impact she made on her students, their families, and the educational community. In 2019, she received the Heritage Christian University Founder’s Award for her service to the church and community, recognizing her lifelong commitment to sharing the love of Jesus through both word and deed. Her ministry extended beyond the classroom. Linda’s heart was open to all, and she embraced the mission to serve “the least of these.” She faithfully ministered in jails and prisons, welcomed people from around the world into her home, and touched the lives of countless individuals—from students and their families to fellow church members and strangers she met in passing. Her work extended internationally, as she shared the gospel in the Andes mountains, the jungles of Peru, and through local Spanish ministries. Linda’s life was a living testament to the words of Matthew 25:23: “Well done, good and faithful servant. Enter into the joy of your master.” She carried out her mission with humility, grace, and an unwavering commitment to service. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Ronald Dwain Lumpkins, son, Barry Lumpkins (Stacey), and daughter, Laura Beth Derr (Joey), grandchildren, Liliana Reynolds (Thomas), Ashlyn Derr, Dawson Derr, Brannon Derr, Preston Lumpkins, Sam Lumpkins, Briley Wooten, and Dawson Wooten. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bedford Forrest Beard and Lonna Williams Beard, and siblings Herschel Beard, Arnold Beard, Margaret Dean, Doris Pettigrew, and Pat Adams. A celebration of Linda’s life will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at 1:00 P.M. at Woodlawn Church of Christ with Bro. Matt Heupel officiating. There will be a visitation prior to this from 12:00 P.M. until 1:00 P.M. at the church. Burial will be in Leoma Cemetery in Leoma, TN. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Mars Hill Bible School or Woodlawn Peru Missions. Linda’s legacy will live on in the hearts of those she touched. As Mark 14:9 says, “Wherever the gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will be told in memory of her.” May her life continue to inspire all who knew her, as she now receives the crown of life.
